FOP PREVAILS ON ZADROGA BILL FOR 9/11 RESPONDERS
Permanent Reauthorization to be part of Final Appropriations Bill
Chuck Canterbury, National President of the Fraternal Order of Police, was grateful to learn that H.R. 1786/S. 928, the "James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act," will be incorporated into the omnibus appropriations measures which will be voted on by Congress next.
“This was the result of a lot of hard work and an intense lobbying effort,” Canterbury said. “But in the end, the FOP prevailed yet again.”
The “James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act,” will ensure continuation of the World Trade Center Health Program and theSeptember 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
“Law enforcement officers and others who responded to the World Trade Centers on the day they fell and those involved in the clean up of their wreckage are from every region of our country,” said Canterbury. “The illness and disease are permanent reminders of their service and sacrifice, so it is only fitting that next week Congress will permanently reauthorize this critical program.”
“We look forward to the vote next week,” Canterbury concluded.
The Fraternal Order of Police is the largest law enforcement labor organization in the United States, with more than 330,000 members.
